Swiss Arbitration: Trace, Freeze, Recover: Challenges and Practical Tips for Enforcing Arbitral Awards in Greece and Beyond

Academias Hotel, Autograph Collection, Athens

Asset tracing and preservation is often the most vital (yet overlooked) part of any cross-border arbitration or litigation. If assets are not found and secured before they disappear, a hard-won award may turn out to be little more than a thankless gift. Εven when assets have been located and provisionally attached, legal challenges can still arise at the enforcement stage. These challenges are familiar not only in Greece but also in major asset-holding jurisdictions such as the UAE, Switzerland, and Cyprus.

Set in the heart of Athens, and accompanied by good food and better company, this brunch session brings together practitioners experienced in asset tracing and enforcement to share practical insights, under the aegis of Swiss Arbitration. Together, they will explore how these difficulties emerge in their respective jurisdictions and offer hands-on tips for tracing, freezing, and recovering assets.

The goal? To wake everyone up (not just with coffee!) to the realities of enforcement, and to exchange ideas on how these challenges can be better managed in practice.

Greek arbitration is entering a new era, shaped by forthcoming institutional reforms and the rapid evolution of technology. Distinguished experts will explore how these developments are reshaping arbitration practice and redefining its role within the modern legal and business landscape. The discussion will unfold through three thematic pillars: first, Arbitration as a mechanism of trust and growth in the market, examining how effective dispute resolution enhances confidence and stability in commercial relations; second, Arbitration under the lens of the upcoming legislative reform and the creation of the Code of Alternative Dispute Resolution; and finally, Arbitration in Greece facing new challenges and opportunities for development, highlighting future perspectives and the country’s potential to emerge as a regional hub for arbitration. Participation in the event is free of charge and requires prior registration through the event website. Attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Disputes Trends & Enforcement of Arbitral Awards: An ICC Regional Perspective

Museum of Cycladic Art: 4, Neofitou Douka street, 10674, Athens

ICC Dispute Resolution Services, ICC Hellas, ICC Serbia, ICC Türkiye, and ICC Albania will join forces for the very first time during the Athens Arbitration Days for a half-day event titled "Disputes Trends & Enforcement of Arbitral Awards: An ICC Regional Perspective." The event will bring together arbitration experts and practitioners from across the region to discuss current developments in dispute resolution and the enforcement of arbitral awards in Southeast Europe. By highlighting the importance of a regional perspective, the conference aims to foster dialogue, share practical insights, and promote greater coherence in arbitration practices across the SEE region. Through two focused panels, participants will explore emerging trends and challenges shaping dispute resolution practices, as well as key issues, experiences, and best practices related to the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards.

Event 7: Thursday 27 November 2025, 9:15-18:45 GR

6th Athens International Arbitration Forum

Construction Contracts and International Arbitration

MEGARON The Athens Concert Hall, Banqueting Hall, Athens

As the construction sector has now fully emerged from the major disruption it faced five years ago, construction activity has already reached pre-pandemic levels and, indeed, it is forecasted to significantly grow in the next decade in the light of big infrastructure and investment projects which have been recently announced, including by several European states. Construction disputes take, and will most likely take, the biggest part of arbitration caseload. Construction arbitration has evolved as a specialist sector that requires practicing counsel and arbitrators to have background expertise and practical experience in order to deal efficiently with complex construction disputes. The conference brings together a group of prominent and experienced construction arbitration practitioners to discuss current issues in construction contracts and arbitration.
